Discover FOCCUS: Advancing Coastal Monitoring for a Resilient Future
This video introduces the FOCCUS project, a key European initiative working to enhance the monitoring and forecasting of coastal zones—areas especially vulnerable to climate change, pollution, and human impact. While the Copernicus Marine Service provides valuable global and regional ocean data, coastal regions require finer-scale, targeted observations. FOCCUS bridges this gap by integrating Member State coastal systems with Copernicus, leveraging high-resolution satellite and in situ data, machine learning, and advanced data assimilation techniques. From improving forecasts of coastal hazards and water quality to supporting ecosystem health and emergency response, FOCCUS is developing practical, co-designed solutions for real-world challenges. The project also plays a crucial role in advancing the sustainable Blue Economy and strengthening climate adaptation strategies.
